Africa
CTP's work in Africa spans assessments, training, evaluations, event management, and instructor training on export control, border security, anti-terrorism, and education. Since we first entered Africa in 2005, CTP has assisted Botswana, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritania, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan, and Tanzania with their national export control systems or with anti-terrorism training.
Kenya
In 2005, CTP conducted an in-country assessment of Kenya's national export control system and recommended training to augment the legal/regulatory infrastructure, Customs authorities, and licensing procedures and practices. Following this assessment, CTP returned to Nairobi in 2007 to conduct two follow-on training sessions: the first imparted awareness on the threat of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to Kenyan first responders and trained them to use a suite of detection and response equipment. The second training session familiarized a highly engaged audience of policymakers from several ministries with the requirements and opportunities of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540. Kenyan audiences requested additional training from the Department of State sponsor. Later in 2007, CTP anti-terrorism experts instructed new Kenyan trainers in how to interdict terrorist activities, and returned to provide more terrorist interdiction training in late 2008.
Rwanda
Within a very tight timeline of three weeks from receiving names to event start, CTP logistics experts arranged for approximately 65 African and other international delegates to travel to a Higher Education Summit in Kigali, Rwanda. Working with participants from around the continent, CTP arranged smooth travels for all participants by booking tickets, managing fluctuations in traveler names and dates, and providing alternatives when the primary air carrier folded. CTP logistics managers at the Kigali event ensured clean execution of all details, including providing US dollars for per diem and cash reimbursement for traveler expenses.
